Peer Relationships in Schools Lab

Lab Mission

In our lab we're interested in understanding how adolescents' relationships with
their peers shape their social development.

Peer Rejection and Victimization as Social Risk Factors
A large body of research links adolescent peer rejection, peer victimization, and aggression to both psychosocial and academic maladjustment. In our lab, we focus on identifying the mechanisms through which these risk factors have their effects, the social contextual conditions under which their negative effects are strongest, and the factors that contribute to the stability of these problematic peer relationships. Our ultimate goal in studying these factors is to be able to provide solutions to adolescent youth so that they can overcome these negative social experiences.

Peer Relationships in the Context of Ethnicity
We also study the significance of ethnicity to students' relationships with their peers. We believe that the ethnic context of a school may play a key role in impacting how students attain their peer social standing and how they negotiate their peer relationships.
